Acura to Phase Out RDX After 2026, Hybrid Model Set to Replace It

Acura’s popular RDX compact SUV will end production after the 2026 model year, making way for a next-generation hybrid version in the coming years.

Honda’s luxury brand teased the fourth-generation RDX, revealing a sleek silhouette and confirming the addition of a two-motor hybrid-electric system—the first of its kind for Acura.

The current RDX will cease production this spring, though Acura expects inventory to remain available for most of the year. Existing owners can extend leases as the transition unfolds.

Acura Sales Strategy Amid RDX Phase-Out

American Honda VP of Sales Lance Woelfer said the company anticipates growth from the entry-level ADX, the three-row MDX, and the electric RSX, which will debut in the second half of the year.

Despite the loss of the RDX—a model introduced in 2007 with roughly 850,000 units sold in North America—Acura aims to increase its market share in 2026.

“Honda and Acura now offer one of the freshest lineups in years,” Woelfer said, citing recent updates to nearly all models in the past 18 months.

Fresh Models and Powertrain Options

Acura and Honda plan to continue offering a mix of internal combustion, hybrid, and electric vehicles for the foreseeable future.

The company also plans to expand production of more affordable trims across its lineup, including the Honda CR-V, Civic, Accord, and Acura ADX and Integra models.

Later this year, updates are expected for the Integra Type S, MDX, Civic Type R, and the 2026 Honda Pilot. The Honda S+ Shift system, which simulates performance shifting, will also be added to the Civic Hybrid.

“The Prelude hybrid launched in November is selling faster than expected, even with a slow ramp-up,” Woelfer said, noting that full dealer availability will come by March.
