WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that killings during Iran’s nationwide protest crackdown appear to be slowing and that he believes there is currently no plan for large-scale executions of demonstrators. He added that while Washington is closely monitoring developments, potential U.S. military action remains under consideration.

Trump made the remarks during an
Oval Office event, citing information from what he described as “very important
sources.” He said those sources indicated executions had been halted, though he
cautioned that the situation remains uncertain.
“I hope it’s true,” Trump said.
“We’re going to watch and see what the process is.”
Analysts Warn of Risks From Military Action
Foreign policy analysts and regional
diplomats warned that U.S. military intervention could carry significant risks,
including intensified repression by Iranian authorities, retaliation against
U.S. military bases in the Middle East, and broader regional instability.
Some experts said strikes could also

Iran Rejects Execution Claims
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas

groups estimate the death toll exceeds 2,600, with arrests numbering in the
tens of thousands.
